Last week, a small group of students from Years 3-6 travelled to Tamworth for the Metro Cup soccer and Netball competitions. This was a combined Christian schools event with students competing from all over the Hunter, including Gunnedah, Wyong and Taree.
Charlton participated in both the Junior Division (Yrs 3-4) and Senior Division (Yrs 5-6). Charlton certainly made a name for themselves on the court and on the field with some impressive wins against other highly competitive schools. The most successful of the four teams was the Junior Soccer team, who played an outstanding game against Greenpoint Christian School and finished second in their pool, making it to the CSSA State Football competition for their efforts. The Senior soccer team gave it their best and only lost one match but came up short of the finals due to points difference.
The girls Netball teams had a great time at the indoor courts nearby. The senior team fought hard in the grand final and have made it to CSSA State as well! The junior netball team played valiantly against some very strong opposition and enjoyed cheering on their senior teammates in between matches.
Regardless of their finishing position on the tables, students were beaming just because they were able to compete and represent Charlton at such a high level in sport. So much so that one student was able to say this about the day: “I don’t care that we didn’t make the finals, we’ve had such an amazing time, it’s more about that.” These moments are what it is all about at Charlton. They create memories that will last a lifetime. Go Charlton!
