This faith is not something we grit our teeth to muster up. It’s not akin to having faith that the Knights continue to play with grit and get a deserved 4th win. Rather, it’s something that comes from a sound understanding of what God has done for us in Jesus.
It’s something that comes from understanding the immense mercy and love with which God has embraced us. Notice the past tense. It doesn’t say he embraces us if we are good enough. Rather, it speaks of the complete freedom from condemnation that is God’s gift to all who place their confidence in Jesus having put us right with God. We can’t make things right ourselves.
This freedom is a by-product of faith. Perhaps the realisation that its start of August is a prompt to ask ourselves how we are travelling and what this means for us.
